Steven Universe, MLP Finale, and more!

sgatazmy Steven Universe is starting soon! They just announced episodes start on November 10. I'm so excited. So excited!!!!!!!! Squeeeeeeeee.
What else am I excited about? The MLP season finale! Oh, and there is someone on my friends list that is actually watching the show! Yay!
So the MLP finale was lots of fun. This show reminds me more and more of SGA the more I watch it. The team that has each others back through everything. The links to history including a connection to ancient ones that lay the groundwork for them. Oh, and the ancient ones turning out not be as awesome or all knowing as expected. Yup, fairly certain I am watching SGA only in pony form.
I can't think of an episode that did more to bring the entire series together. In MLP the mane 6 each represent an element of harmony: honesty, generosity, loyalty, kindness, laughter, and magic (of friendship). In this episode we meet the 6 pillars from ancient times who were the heroes of the land. They are the counterparts to the mane 6, showing a thread through history to bring heroes together. In fact, our mane 6's elements follow from the pillars who planted the tree of harmony. Okay, probably a little confusing if you don't watch the series, but trust me, it's awesome. We get to meet legendary heroes returning from limbo and Twilight finally gets to meet Starswirl the Bearded (pony of legend that taught Celestia and Luna) only to find out he's sort of a jerk who has no sense of friendship. In fact, Starswirl believes that once a person is a villain, they are always a villain. This is in deep contrast to most of the villains in MLP that have reformed at some point.
I like that Starswirl is no longer this pony of legend with all the answers. Now he's someone who has faults and isn't as kind or patient as I expected. When he's judgmental of Twilight, I love how the mane 6 jump to her defense! That really made the episode for me.
Oh and what is up with Applejacks's super strength in this episode? She just kicks a giant boulder that Indiana Jones Pony has someone just sent her direction? How does she buck that thing? I realize the mane 6 have always excelled in their areas but I don't remember her excelling THAT much!
Okay, I can't seem to make coherent thoughts on this episode so I'm just going to leave it at the fact I really enjoyed the episode. I am concerned that the pillars (the legendary heroes) are still there because there is potential to overshadow the mane 6 and/or not make any villain worth worrying about because the land has so many heroes. I guess we'll see how this plays out in season 8.
I've had a pony fic running through my head for a very long time. It is an unusual fic in that it teams up Apple Bloom (Applejack's little sister) and Rainbow Dash against a strange darkness sort of like the Pony of Shadows. Don't ask me how it works. It's kind of weird. Think maybe Harry Potter book 2 with Ginny and the journal. If I could figure out how to write pony fic I think it would be amazing despite how weird it sounds. But I can't figure out how to write fic in this universe well so I guess it just stays in my head.
