sgatazmy: The word broken next to a worried/upset looking Sheppard (hurt)

Thoughts

My hit counts on stories is quickly dropping (3x less this month than last). I can’t figure out if it’s that my stories don’t interest people so people see my name and just don’t click or if something else is going on. I feel okay about it, mostly. I already know any migrated fics will get less clicks, but I’m not sure on the story for new fics. I have some readers who seem to kudos each time and that really keeps me going. The comments also help to maintain my squee.  I have so many stories in my head I want to write.  I just wish I could silence the voice in my head that keeps asking if I am doing something wrong.

I think I do realize that I write too much gen for most of the appetite out there. I just don’t think I am even capable of writing anything explicit, nor am I sure I want to. I will read just about anything, but writing is just a different thing all together.

Anyway, I’m almost finished with the George the Turtle Series revisions.  There were so many edits needed but I think it’s a better coherent whole thanks to my betas. I did decide to leave the current ones posted as gen and then I’ll post a new version that is pre-relationship McShep that then leads into John and Rodney’s Wedding Adventure.

I've never followed the hit counts etc, just delighted when I get the odd comment here and there. But then, I always wrote for myself and didn't really mind if people liked what I wrote or not! I'd tell that voice that it doesn't matter, so long as you enjoy it and some others do too.

It could be time of year. People often have less time to spend these days - between holidays, back to school, holiday parties, etc., I think folks are just busy.

You’re a really good writer and it’s been lovely to see your enthusiasm at returning to the fandom. For what it’s worth, I hope you don’t get discouraged and continue to enjoy writing.

Like Tipper said, I expect people are just busy and a little overwhelmed. And I've also noticed - especially in not very active fandoms - that there can be a huge variation in the reception that my different stories get, often due to completely unpredictable factors. So I hope it'll pick up a little, especially once readers have a chance to go back and read your older stories.

I'm really happy to see you're back in the fandom and enjoying yourself! <3
