Let's see, in book five they finally rescue Rodney and eventually get him *mostly* back to normal but everyone is hesitant to fully trust him. He can talk with Teyla through the gift now which is fairly well done. But Rodney doesn't tell anyone that he can do more than just communicate with the Wraith and Teyla. He can actually hear other thoughts. So book five ended with him hearing Sheppard's thoughts on where this WMD was that would eliminate the Wraith (Sheppard had been tasked by Woolsey to hide it and not tell anyone where he did so). So Rodney takes the device for "safe keeping" and we are led to believe he's either arrogant or crazy. Probably a bit both.
From what I can tell in book 6, it ends with destroying the WMD. I think it gets hurtled into a sun, but I'm not sure. Somehow, however, Rodney ends up in a sun as well and ascends? I think that was enough for me to be like...yeah...I'm done. You don't like Rodney's character that is one thing, but to kill him off?
The next book, Unascended apparently starts a new storyline with Weir unascending but I didn't see any evidence of it happening with Rodney? I could be wrong.
