This is less a commentary about the last episode and more a reflection on SGA itself.  Having rewatched the series in full, I think I have a different perspective than I did seven years ago.

I think this was the perfect ending for SGA.  I'm glad it didn't continue past this for several reasons (the awful movie plot line they would have done that included Sheppard getting together with Teyla among them).  There was a beauty, you see, in season five and sadly I think it was lost to many:

Side note:  Oh, and Todd is on Atlantis.  Bestie thinks I'm crazy because I consider Todd an awkward and disturbing part of the team.  I wonder what paths lay before him?

We are almost finished with our season five rewatch.  The good news is that Bestie missed most of season one so we'll head back and watch those.  Of course, Ronon is her favorite character so season one isn't going to be her favorite, but it should still be fun.

My thoughts after rewatching The Queen:

  • Again, I remember nothing of this episode.  What is it about season five that none of it really stuck in my memory?

  • Teyla made an amazing Queen.  It really freaked out Bestie who kept saying, "Not okay.  So not okay."

  • I expected Ronon to complain more in the beginning about the plan.  Instead, Rodney seemed to be the voice of reason even if everyone treated him like he was overreacting.  I'm sorry, but dealing with Wraith is just not a good idea.

  • I love Todd!  I really do.  I consider him part of the team which my Bestie is horrified by.  I'm fairly certain he is on Atlantis when the series ends so I would love to read some fics post-series with Todd.

  • Never trust Todd.  When will we learn?  He is crafty and political and way too smart for our own good.  He completely used the team to give him power.

  • I like how the Wraith were aware of all of Teyla's 'irrationalities' as a queen.  It made the whole episode far more believable.

So there you go.  Not an episode with a lot of squee but not a bad episode either.  I can see why I forgot most of it.

The fic I just finished, by the way, takes place after Ghost in the Machine.  I'm very excited to post it but I'm waiting on a beta who tends to take several weeks.  It may drive me crazy waiting to see if the story is any good!  (I have written bad stories before.  I've thankfully had Betas with the good sense to tell me 'Uh, no'.)  Crazy enough I'm already thinking of the sequel.  It's kind of a second chapter but has such a different feel and theme that I think it needs to be a completely separate story.  While thinking of this story, it might help to offer a prompt for comment_fic to get your take on what might happen:

Assuming Rodney is somehow trapped somewhere for three months and in need of entertainment, what different ways would members of the expedition choose to entertain him.  By the way, he can't have any laptops or play with alien tech.
sgatazmy: the team sitting at lunch on a balcony (love)
I may have been dancing around the house all of yesterday singing the Psych theme song.  I still can't believe how much fun the finale was.  :)

Husband and I watched three episodes of Justified last night until 1 am because I am crazy and apparently 7 am is a completely reasonable bed time for going to sleep at 1 am, right?  Today is going to be...*snores*

Anyway, Bestie and I watched Whispers for our latest SGA episode.

  • I find 'horror' episodes often boring.  For the most part, this was no exception.  I just have a hard time concentrating and getting into them.

  • The saving grace for this episode is the ALL GIRL TEAM!!!!!!  Seriously, I don't think I saw this episode before.  At all.  I remembered zilch about it and you'd think I would remember something.  How can I forget about an ALL GIRL TEAM!!!!!  Fully capable and not all of them dolled up.  I can't tell you how much I love this.  Now I understand why their are so many fanfictions talking about Major Teldy's team.  I couln't figure that out before.

  • Yay, Carson.  Carson flirting with a girl.  Carson getting his life on track while still struggling with the fact he is a clone.  I love how he tries to crack jokes at it now.

  • I still fail to understand why certain characters went out into the mist alone.

  • Rodney so excited to have Carson back.  Rodney has such a huge heart.  I think it's why I'm attracted to writing his character so much.   He has so many flaws and he should be annoying by all rights, but that heart of his along with his smile win me over.

  • I felt bad for Rodney at the end when Carson and John were keeping him out of the loop.  I don't think they understand how much Rodney really desires to be part of Carson's life.  I don't think it felt so much as a joke to him as cruel.   Just tell him about this girl Carson likes and make him part of the circle.  Remember, so many of Rodney's insecurities come from feeling left out of things.  I remember when Rod came to Atlantis in McKay and Mrs. Miller.  I think we got a good look of how much it means to Rodney to be included and not separated from things.

  • The creatures that Michael were just creepy!  I'm really not sure what I think of them.

To reiterate:  AN ALL GIRL TEAM!
sgatazmy: the team sitting at lunch on a balcony (love)
May I just say that these episodes were far more enjoyable the second time around. I remember being meh about them before but I had a lot of fun during this rewatch.  Short thoughts because I need to get to bed.

  • I have to start with Ghost in the Machine.  I just love love love all of the characters reactions in this and how they can't really know it is Weir until the end where she sacrifices them all.  There is something magical there and bitter sweet.  My imagination world immediately continues with Rodney building Weir a human form body (because the replicators left the specs) and him going to retrieve her from space without telling anyone (because they wouldn't let him).  He then takes her to a world where she can live out her days. He would do this. We know he would! (Who wants to write it?)

  • Daedalus Variations: Yay, Rodney got shot.  That just never gets old.  I love how he got to hold Teyla's baby in the end, even though he has only one good arm.  Even better: when she says Rodney would make a good dad and everyone gets uncomfortable.  Rodney as a dad scares me...

  • There is something about all the other universes being in a worse position than the cannon universe.  I like Ronon's wisdom when he tells Teyla that she can't worry about all the millions of Torrens, just her own.  Ronon is awesome when he is the voice of wisdom.

sgatazmy: the team sitting at lunch on a balcony (love)
I actually just made a huge write-up for this episode and then someone showed up to my office hours and somehow inbetween the whole thing got deleted.  *fail*

Let's see if I can get the main ideas of what I wrote before I head to my next class.  It's not all positive....

1.  I like Keller but she is inconsistent in this episode.  We were set up in Quarantine for her to be a bit nerdy and not into the bar scenes but then here she's all about the bar scene.  I think I reconcile this as people change in their lives.  Many people I know started out one way and moved another after college.  I am bothered by how we have the moment with Ronon straight to the moment with McKay.  There just isn't much of a transition there.  I know there is a deleted scene where she mentions how Ronon and her were getting along well but then he didn't make a move again.  Why or why didn't they leave that moment in this episode.  It would really have helped.

1b.  If Ronon didn't make a move in all this time, what was he doing trying to make a move so late in season 5?  Is he as incompetent with women as McKay is?  Is he even worse?????  Shy Ronon?  That's kind of awesome to think about.

2. I have grown to like Sam in Atlantis during this rewatch but not in this episode.  I really dislike all the parts where she is the golden girl and McKay is just less.  It's not fair to all McKay has done and it's painful to watch.  I like once she breaks her legs because then the writers are forced to put it all in McKay's hands.  I think they felt they needed to do that to have McKay shine which may be what bothers me the most.

3.  McKay should be in better shape by now.  Seriously.  However, holding that rope was no small feat.  Ronon would be proud.  I want a tag where Ronon says as much.

4.  I think McKay loses a lot of weight between now and season five.  I like to think this episode shows a lot of what motivated him to do so.

5.  I did like watching Keller, Carter, and McKay working through things while having idle chat.  Rodney was hilarious when he had to decide who he'd want to sleep with out of random lists of men.  I just about died.

6.  Much as I had trouble with the Keller dynamic here, I really did enjoy the ending scene.  It was sweet.  I wonder what happened after.  I imagine they talked.  We know they don't get together yet (strangely not for a long while!) but we do know somewhere between now and Brainstorm, McKay falls for her.  How?  When?  What do they talk about?  I'd love to read a well-written fic with some scenes (that doens't portray them as silly highschoolers).  Of course, I've learned my lesson about seeking out McKeller fic.  My brain is still hurting from the last time...

7.  Sheppard sucking on the lollypop at the beginning of the episode.  I don't know why, but it was awesome.

8.  Rodney not realizing he broke up with Katie in Quarantine.  Ah, poor guy.  I thought he got it when the door shut on him at the end of that episode, but apparently not.  He is right: He would have made her miserable.
sgatazmy: the team sitting at lunch on a balcony (love)

  • When Rodney admits how much he is hurting from the entire Elizabeth stuff, I just want to hug him.  I remember now why I thought he was on the verge of a breakdown in season four.  In fact, I ask you, how can he not be breaking down?  He's learned how many people have died because of him changing the replicator base code?  He almost got Elizabeth back just to lose her again.   So many of his actions have led to so much death.  Nobody can be okay after all of that.  I don't care what pedestal we put them on; they are not okay. I am going to go back and write the next chapter of City of Sorrows when I get to that part in season five because I must finish through with this whole Rodney has a break down theme.

  • Come to think of it, shouldn't they ALL be having breakdowns at this point?

  • Bestie had no idea Teyla was pregnant.  It was so awesome watching her response.  Watching season 4 again was hilarious because I can see all the special shots and clothes they used to hide the pregnancy.

  • Mortal Coil: When Sheppard, Teyla, and Ronon all corner McKay in his lab to cut his hand...um...okay...I like the scene because it is different but...  What if he didn't instantly heal?  What if they had nanites and he didn't?  What are they hoping to prove exactly?  What if they were wrong?  *Scratches head*

sgatazmy: the team sitting at lunch on a balcony (love)

  • Anyone who says John is okay with what he did in Miller's Crossing is not watching the same scenes I am.  I say this because I watched Joe Flannigan's acting carefully and Joe is brilliant at playing Sheppard.  It's always in the eyes and the subtle movements.  You can see his conflict as he talks Wallace into killing himself.  You can see when Rodney comes to visit him how haunted he is by the decision.  His eyes say everything.  He definitely is not handling things well.  Must read fanfiction on this.

  • Bestie and I love how dark SGA is willing to go versus SG-1. Besides Miller's Crossing which is whoa dark there is also Missing which features Teyla ruthlessly killing the equally ruthless badguys.  There's a scene where she is swinging an axe in the deadly assault and it happens offscreen because we can tell it's going to be gory and too violent to show on even Atlantis.

  • I really liked Missing.  I can see how Keller could come off annoying here but I like that her character is showing some definite flaws.  I find it interesting how when she's reacting well to stuff she is a Mary Sue and when she is reacting badly she is annoying.  I can't help but feel that fandom judges women characters in ways they don't judge the male characters because she's not really anymore of a Mary Sue than most of the SGA characters were when they started out.  As for her actions in Missing, yeah, I would be freaking out and so not okay the entire time.  I just give her credit for eventually eating the entrails.

  • Seer was filled with a lot more awesome than I remembered.  I liked Rodney and John talking about how Rodney's actions of changing the replicator base code led to the death of so many.  What a weight on his conscience and how great the writers are for letting us see that conflict.  I keep thinking if the team gets a way to go back in time and keep themselves from ever coming to Pegasus that they probably should.  So much of the death is directly traced to them and in the end how much good do they have to trade for it?

  • Doppleganger!  I just don't have enough words to share for this episode.  I'm sad to see Heightmeyer go.  I loved the clown in the back of the boat.  I especially loved Sheppard helping Rodney through his dream then Rodney doing the same for him.  These boys are just amazing together.  In my world, they are basically brothers at this point.  My favorite bits?  Talking in the messhall.  I can never get enough team downtime scenes.

sgatazmy: the team sitting at lunch on a balcony (love)

I can't get enough Adrift.  I have found no missing scene or tag fanfiction for it (that is well written or not slash) so I am reading old reactions from when it first came out.  I think this may have been one of the best SGA episodes in the entire series.  I still can't stop squeeing over the argument scene.

So take pity on me and do this commentfic: Write a missing scene or tag to this episode.  Triple awesome bonus points if it is AU where Rodney and John don't get immediately interrupted by Elizabeth waking up.

I will pay you back with fic of your choice.

By the way, tonight I am watching Doppelganger and whatever else follows that.

There is so much to love here:

1. The fight!  Oh, I just adored all of this.  Rodney wants to save Elizabeth so badly that he activates the nanites despite John's orders.  I could watch the scene where they are arguing about it so many times over and still want to watch it more.  I LOVE how they are both right in their own ways.

Rodney can't stand to see Elizabeth die but in breaking with orders he's done quite a few things here. He's betayed John's trust almost as a throwback to Arcturus. He's put the entire city in danger. He's reactivated replicators which is pretty darned terrifying.  Finally, he's forced John to make the even harder decision of purposely destryoing the nanites and killing Elizabeth which is all together different than just allowing her to die from nonintervention.
cut for lots of rambling )

Forward to when John keeps responding in anger to Rodney and Rodney finally says "This is stupid" and apologizes.  I could just melt right here because their friendship is such that they can work past this.  John accepts the apology and they move on.  It's the last we hear of it on the screen.  I love how Rodney apologizes, knowing they need to work together.  I just adore scenes where Rodney tries to be the better man.

I do have to wonder if that really is the end of the conversation  They do still have to deal with the fact John was in command and Rodney willfully disobeyed his orders putting everyone in great danger by reactivating the replicators.  Friendship and forgiveness aside, that really should come with some consequences. We are talking about replicators here, after all.  This is no small thing Rodney just did.

There must be consequences.  If not from John then at least from the IOA when the report comes out. Yes, it all worked out for Lifeline and it's the only reason they survived to get the ZPM, but how everything came about is a problem.  Especially given how high in the Atlantis Chain of Command Rodney is.  I can't imagine that these actions go unchecked?  It would probably be easier if it came from John if only to show the IOA that some action was taken.  I don't know what.  Suspension, probation, something!

I really want to read a fanfiction about this and I want the fanfiction to NOT have John as a jerk and to definitely have their friendship intact (even if strained).

2.  Ronon!  Sometimes he is the most awesome in the background.  I love when Sheppard and McKay are fighting how Ronon is walking up to them and then gets this look on his face like "uh...not part of this" before turning and walking away.

3.  Ronon and Teyla in the end scene.  Ronon puts his hand on Teyla's shoulder and she leans into him.  It's a beautiful comfort scene.

4.  I do like Keller.  I know so many people don't but I like how they introduced her as not wanting to take Carson's place.  I like how she is Rodney's conspirator here.  She will go far to save lives.  I think it goes a long way for me that she is willing to go so far to save Elizabeth.
sgatazmy: angry chibi rodney square (Default)
Okay, I will admit that I remembered nothing of Submersion before I watched the episode again.  I was wary because any of these "horror" episodes I have a hard time seeing what is happening on the screen and I usually get bored.  They usually are fun stories if in book form, but they just don't do it for me on the screen.

So imagine my surprise when I LOVED so much of this episode.  Sure, I really didn't care for the Wraith plot, but there were so many precious moments here:

1.  Grayden!  I love this guy.  I wish they hadn't killed him because he was comedy gold.  Tactless Rodney told him he hired the wrong guy and then the other scientist following up with "He's a really good scientist.  I'm surprised Mckay didn't hire him."  I just about died laughing.  So now I need to know if we ever see Grayson in the series or if anyone has ever included him in fanfic.  I'd actually love to read a fanfic with Grayden coming to Atlantis!  Or even better, here's a tag written on the fly:

Grayson gets offered the job )
2.  I think every post-season 3 fanfic I write must have Grayson in it now.  Also, I now have a mental image of Miko or Katie Brown or other more timid scientists having to fire their weapons at an invading enemy.

3.  I really liked where Teyla managed to come out of her trance just to realize someone is tracking her.  She turns around, aims her weapon, and there is Sheppard and Ronon aiming theirs at her and telling her to drop her weapon.  I just love scenes like this!

4.  I'm quickly forgetting whatever else I liked of this episode.  I know I should have written it all down the first time.  I remember liking how they're all annoyed at staying on the station for a few more days because there is still research to do.  How awesome to win the day but to still have work to do.  Poor Ronon, Sheppard, and Teyla.

5.  I am currently teaching exponential growth in my classes.  Thanks to this tag, I now want (but will not) to ask a question such as:

In 2005 the number of scientists on Atlantis was 200.  By the end of the year, only 125 scientists remained. Find the average percent decay rate per week for the population of scientists on Atlantis in 2005.

sgatazmy: the team sitting at lunch on a balcony (love)
I realized Kolya was in this one so I went ahead and rewatched it despite my reservations.  I did not watch Irresistible again.

Bestie and I agree it isn't the best episode but it's not nearly as bad as I remember.  We think it's better than many mediocre SG1 episodes even.  There are some funny parts and while I originally disliked Kolya in the same episode as Lucius, I really liked it this time.  While Kolya certainly deserved better, it was nice to see Lucius having to face a real villain and thus consequences for his actions.  Ah, if only Kolya had killed him...

Unfortunately, there were still so many parts that make me just feel ick.  The guy is a creep through and through.  One saving grace is at least none of the team really likes him or thinks what he is doing is okay. If they were somehow okay with him I think that would make the episode much worse.

So let's focus on some of the bright moments:

1. The team stepping in front of McKay to protect him from Kolya.

2. McKay raising his hand while his team steps in front of him as if to side step them and walk into harms way anyway.

3.  Kolya!  I realize he deserves to be in a more serious episode, but at the same time he adds a nice dark element to everything. He makes it impossible to see the episode as just off, badly thought-out humor.

4. Team in handcuffs and behind bars.  It's something I always love to see.  But why was McKay cuffed in the front while everyone else was cuffed in the back?  (At least at one point.  The other time they all were cuffed in the back.)
sgatazmy: angry chibi rodney square (Default)
We watched Tao of Rodney and The Game last night.  I keep asking bestie if she wants to watch something else but she is apparently in love with the series and adoring watching it.  We noticed a lot in these two episodes:

1.  In Tao, I was really upset at the team for talking behind Rodney's back about his weight and how he feeds his unhappiness.  I cheered really loud when Rodney confronted them about the whole conversation.  Rodney looks like he is a healthy weight so I'm not sure what they're problem is.  Not everyone is supposed to look like a model.

There is this part of me that is still in disbelief that Rodney doesn't exercise.  I was watching ahead into season five a few weeks ago and there is this scene in Trio where Keller reveals Rodney's physicals show he is not in the best of shape.  He even mentions later that he should be better by now after five years and all I can think of is that he really should be.  If John is as protective of Rodney as we know he is than he shouldn't let Rodney out on the field without at least getting him to work out and  ready himself to fight.  Sure, Rodney's job isn't to fight, but it's not like he's never been kidnapped or under siege before.

In fact, why doesn't the whole expedition have mandatory physical readiness guidelines for both military and science personnel?  I've always pictured the military offering different classes to the science members including shooting practice, general physical readiness, and basic fighting.  If I were in charge of the expedition, I would order such classes as mandatory.  (I do remember there is an episode where Rodney is getting some training from Ronon at least.  Not sure which episode that is.)

2.  When The Game starts out, they are all in the mess hall and Rodney is posing a hypothetical about a train, ten people, and a baby.  We realized this conversation perfectly summed up the team.  They don't deal with no-win scenarios. They each, in their own way, find whatever solutions might be hidden in the problem.

3.  Rodney was eating a salad at the beginning of The Game while everyone else had different foods on their plates.  Since this episode immediately follows Tao of Rodney, I wonder if there is a connection?  I realize they probably didn't mean for there to be, but it really works out well.  Also, John is eating an orange in front of Rodney.

4. Tao is a great episode.  I am still wondering if most of SGA is:  Let's see how often we can bring Rodney or John to be brink of death.  No wonder this show attracts whumpers!  There were some precious scenes here.  I think my favorite is when Rodney asks Ronon about his scars.  It's such an insightful question and completely awesome.  Are they a badge of courage or something he'd rather forget?  I had assumed they'd be the prior but Ronon's answer leads us to believe the latter.  I can't help but smile when Rodney heals them for him.    Then there is Elizabeth saying, "We love you" and Rodney bringing that back later.  So much team love in this episode.

5.  Team love continually draws me back to this show.  For all the fandoms I've embraced, never has there been such a team as this.  There is an essay written by Robert Louis Stevenson about The Musketeer series (my second favorite team in all of everything.  He writes specifically of the last book: The Vicomte de Bragelonne).  In this essay he explains how some characters stick with us and become our friends.  We must revisit them over and over again because we cherish their precious friendship in our own lives.  He talks of leaving behind many books unread just so he can read The Musketeer Series again.  I feel this way about both The Musketeers and about SGA.  I imagine I will continually come back to this fandom at different points in my life.

He writes my own feelings of revisiting these friends:

Essay quote )6.  Lorne and Radek playing The Game=Awesome.

7.  While I am thinking about Dumas and The Musketeer Series, the team love there really does remind me of some of SGA.  I think some of the dynamic with Athos and D'Artagnan hit the same spot as John and Rodney do.  In fact there is this beautiful scene with D'Artagnan that would make a similar amazing scene for Sheppard.

I would pay to see such a story or fan art: There is this precious scene in one of the latter Musketeer books (there are 3-5 depending how you count them) where D'Artagnan is ordered to arrest Athos and D'Artagnan offers Athos a horse to escape.  Athos refuses and forces D'Artagnan to arrest him anyway.  D'Artangnan then returns to the king and says "Athos is in prison, due to no fault of my own."

The king is of course upset and says, "What do you mean no fault of your own.  Did I not send you to arrest him?"

So D'Artagnan explains how he sent a horse to try and help Athos escape but Athos refused because he was too honorable.

"Do you wish to outdo your friend in insolence?" asks the king.

"Oh, I plan to go much further than he did, sire."

It continues and D'Artagnan basically demands the king have him arrested just so he can keep Athos company in the bastille.

It is my all time favorite scene in ALL of literature.  I have read it so many times over than no less than four copies of the book have lost those particular pages.

If you want to see the quote from the chapter I love so dearly, this is it:

D'Artagnan's insolence )
So I want a story where John is supposed to arrest Rodney or something because of some bureaucratic BS (or something) and instead Sheppard tries to give Rodney a heads up to go into hiding or something.  Or John insists on going to jail with Rodney.  Or some sort of team love along those lines because I think that would be awesome and hit all the right buttons for me.

8.  I'm almost to Sunday.  I think I keep asking Bestie if she wants to slow down on watching the show if only to avoid Carson's fate.  :(

sgatazmy: angry chibi rodney square (Default)
I remembered season three was the golden season of Stargate Atlantis.  In rewatching the series, I can see why.  All my favorite characters are still around.  The chemistry between everyone has developed into beautiful, lasting friendships.  I just ADORE this season.  I also find I see the show with very different eyes now than I did in the past:

1.  I loved Echoes.  It's the little things that make this episode so much fun.  Ronon smiles so sweetly and I can actually imagine shipping him with Teyla if I was a shipping kind of girl.  He's really coming alive and enjoying himself on Atlantis and he's also taking the time to relax and be himself (even when that self is him annoyed with others).

2. I also love Elizabeth as the leader.  She's strong but she's also fun.  She gets Rodney and John in a way that future leaders don't.  She shares in their joys.  I don't know.  I just can't put my finger on what makes her so awesome.  I am really dreading future episodes without her.

3. I also love how when Rodney and John get headaches in the puddlejumper and Rodney starts bleeding and apparently is in bad straights, John calls in and says "Rodney needs help" but doesn't bother to mention how his own ears are bleeding or anything.  John in protective mode is just so awesome.  The more I find myself liking John's character, the more I want to see him in that protective role while he is injured.  My favorite moment for these two was the calm in the infirmary when Rodney can't hear him and John just keeps insulting Rodney and calling him Meredith.  Then they both just decide to leave without Carson's permission!  Oh team!!!!!

4. I think the calmest episodes of SGA are the best episodes.  The writers really hit their stride when they're not trying to do overcomplicated plots but just focus on the characters and life on Atlantis.

5. Oh...and then my SGA confession.  I have ALWAYS been a gen girl.  I wil probably always be a gen girl.  I tend to not like reading relationships.  I don't know why.  McShep, however, has always been a big issue for me.  I just have never seen it in the show.  To me, Rodney is as straight as it gets and I just can't see him liking John in that way.  In fact, I see him being completely freaked out by the idea in any shape or form.  I do realize, however, that McShep is the dominant pairing so people see something there that I just don't.  Until recently...

I think John is the one that does it for me.  He has so many silent inflections in how he looks at a person or how he deals with a situation.   He may never talk emotions but his countenance tells all. (It's why I have a hard time writing him.  So much what he says is never really said aloud.  I love his character but how do you write that well?) I think John could very well be bi or gay and the more I watch him with Rodney the more I can buy into the unrequited love aspect of McShep.  In fact, I really wouldn't be surprised if John does have feelings for Rodney but fully understands Rodney would not reciprocate in that way so John just keeps those emotions to himself as he keeps all other emotions to himself.  (The Shrine really puts this piece together for me.  The way John refuses to let McKay sacrifice himself to a Wraith.  How did he even get McKay locked out of his lab?  How did McKay figure it out enough to know to steal someone elses key card?  Such awesomeness.)

5. Now, I know the SGA fandom is fairly anti-Keller which I always found to be a bit of a shame because I really like Keller.  She may have been a bit inconsistent, but there's just something about her that I love.  In fact, I actually really like McKeller as a pairing.  (I think Brainstorm was actually good except for the whole giving CPR and then she's suddenly okay thing.  Yes, I know fandom hated it.)  I don't know why I differ from fandom so much on so many things, but I just see the show differently.  I do feel McKeller worked (despite the appearance of being shoved down our throats.  And no, I don't feel it was all about dividing the team either.  In fact, when McKay tells Ronon that they will have to let the best man win, I saw that as McKay being a good friend.  He chose to talk to Ronon and get on the same page in the interest of not ruining their friendship) .  I would have liked to see where it went in future seasons.

With my new view of John, however, this whole McKeller dynamic becomes a bit muddled.  I now see a John who wants what is best for his friend so he just stands back and watches while secretly feeling gutted from the whole thing.  It really changes my view of the show overall.

However, I still have issues in general with the idea that bromance must mean romance.  I really like McShep friendship without any signs of romance because I love the bromance there.  I love the fact that they will do anything for each other no matter what, not because of some romantic attachment, but because they are best friends.  I really like that.  I do.

Either way, I have way too many stories I want to read now:

1. Ending to Brainstorm that acknowledges how in bad straights Keller would really be medically.

2.  More Ronon.  Especially more protective Ronon after any member of the team

3. Missing scenes to Miller's Crossing that fill in the gaps from when Rodney leaves his conversation with John to when he's trying to get into the lab with someone else's keycard

4.  More quiet Atlantis stories that focus less on a bigger plot line and more on the friendship of everyone

5.  John being courtmartialed or John in Leavenworth (I wrote a story but I want more!)

6.  Rodney arrested.  Or John and Rodney arrested.  By people on Earth or the military or whatever that isn't an alien planet.

7.  Teyla and Ronon friendship or pre-relationship stories.

So yesterday I managed all of 150 words instead of 500-1000. Not the best start. I did, however, get a lot of plotting down so I don't feel like I was unproductive.

I rewatched The Shrine last night.

I love forgetting episodes and watching them again )

It seems to be there are so many possibilities for missing scenes on this one. They don't show much on the progression of Rodney's decay at first from the team's point of view. Anyone have any recommendations for good missing scene fics here? The only one I've read so far is one of Sholio's tags.

I also saw The Intruder and Runner as I am watching season two in order with my housemate (and because I really need to re-watch the whole series to write my story I'm working on).

I had forgotten most of both of these episodes. Since I'm running out of time to write here, a few thoughts:

I missed these boys )

If anyone wants to join me in re-watching, I should be watching Duet tonight.
