I actually just made a huge write-up for this episode and then someone showed up to my office hours and somehow inbetween the whole thing got deleted. *fail*
Let's see if I can get the main ideas of what I wrote before I head to my next class. It's not all positive....
1. I like Keller but she is inconsistent in this episode. We were set up in Quarantine for her to be a bit nerdy and not into the bar scenes but then here she's all about the bar scene. I think I reconcile this as people change in their lives. Many people I know started out one way and moved another after college. I am bothered by how we have the moment with Ronon straight to the moment with McKay. There just isn't much of a transition there. I know there is a deleted scene where she mentions how Ronon and her were getting along well but then he didn't make a move again. Why or why didn't they leave that moment in this episode. It would really have helped.
1b. If Ronon didn't make a move in all this time, what was he doing trying to make a move so late in season 5? Is he as incompetent with women as McKay is? Is he even worse????? Shy Ronon? That's kind of awesome to think about.
2. I have grown to like Sam in Atlantis during this rewatch but not in this episode. I really dislike all the parts where she is the golden girl and McKay is just less. It's not fair to all McKay has done and it's painful to watch. I like once she breaks her legs because then the writers are forced to put it all in McKay's hands. I think they felt they needed to do that to have McKay shine which may be what bothers me the most.
3. McKay should be in better shape by now. Seriously. However, holding that rope was no small feat. Ronon would be proud. I want a tag where Ronon says as much.
4. I think McKay loses a lot of weight between now and season five. I like to think this episode shows a lot of what motivated him to do so.
5. I did like watching Keller, Carter, and McKay working through things while having idle chat. Rodney was hilarious when he had to decide who he'd want to sleep with out of random lists of men. I just about died.
6. Much as I had trouble with the Keller dynamic here, I really did enjoy the ending scene. It was sweet. I wonder what happened after. I imagine they talked. We know they don't get together yet (strangely not for a long while!) but we do know somewhere between now and Brainstorm, McKay falls for her. How? When? What do they talk about? I'd love to read a well-written fic with some scenes (that doens't portray them as silly highschoolers). Of course, I've learned my lesson about seeking out McKeller fic. My brain is still hurting from the last time...
7. Sheppard sucking on the lollypop at the beginning of the episode. I don't know why, but it was awesome.
8. Rodney not realizing he broke up with Katie in Quarantine. Ah, poor guy. I thought he got it when the door shut on him at the end of that episode, but apparently not. He is right: He would have made her miserable.
