Today has been a day. Ooooof. Parenting is hard.
I’ce got the outlines now for my Fandom Trumps Hate stories and I’m excited to get to work in them. When I finally have time to myself….
I’m reposting an old gen story of mine: Weakness. Revising my old work has really shown me how far I have come. I can spot passive voice better now, make more believable action sequences, and make a more compelling and sensical story. The trick has been tempering my “Change everything!!!” with “Keep true to who I was and what my original readers enjoyed.”
Two Podfics
Nov. 14th, 2024 10:23 pm I haven't posted here in a bit, but I've managed some fan creations despite how busy I've been. It's been a little over a year now since I found my way back to SGA world and it's so weird to realize how much it means to me. Today, I made it to work and decided "nope". I needed a break. So instead I sat down and wrote a fluff piece (with metaphorical knives because humor and soft is best with a touch of pain). It's for a bigger project so I can't post it yet, but I'm so excited to have gotten it written and that my project partners loved it. (A huge relief!
So what have I posted lately? A lot, actually. To start, I branched out to podficcing WonkyElk fics.
[Podfic] The Curious Incident of the Coffee in the Waiting Room by WonkyElk. This one was so fun to post. It's humor, crack, and just so perfect. I loved reading this. It's McShep, teen
[Podfic] Hold Me While I Break by WonkyElk. This story was written for me when I was having a rough day and needed to put my pain in Rodney by reading him have a breakdown. Wonky Elk was so kind to oblige. Her writing is spot on and so beautiful. This piece is gen, no relationship but can easily be read as McShep if you prefer.

Oct. 7th, 2024 06:32 amAck, it’s Monday again. I had a headache all night and now I have to somehow work this morning.
I’ve been reading fanfic but not writing much at the moment. My mystery story is turning into just a dark dark story. I’m playing with my summary: Rodney confess to a murder he clearly didn’t commit (despite mounds of evidence he did). John’s investigating to find the true killer, so why does Rodney keep trying to block his efforts?
The number of warnings this fic is going to need…. But I think it’s a story worth telling.
What are you all working on? How goes it?

A few updates, biggest one is (4)
(1) Disneyland DAS was really easy in person. Such a relief! My middle got her much needed accommodations and the trip went fairly well.
(2) I finished Bottled Up Lightning. It’s doing really well overall. I did wake up to one negative comment on my birthday so that sucked. I rarely get negative feedback on AO3 so I find it so jarring. In this case, I see where the commented is coming from, although I disagree strongly and believe they are confusing two very different situations. But I’ve decided not to answer and move on for my own sanity.
(3) I realize some of the people commenting/kudosing go as far back as liking my work since 2014 and some from as far back as 2005! Even some of the people I have never interacted with. That’s such a sweet comforting thought.
(4). Um…this was my house the night of the 4th. I’m still processing this. I was sitting on the couch, totally freaked out at how close the neighbors were doing fireworks near us and thinking I need to chill and take anxiety meds like pets do at this time of year, when my son runs in and says “black stuff hit the house!”. And I see these flames. So I run back in and call everyone out shouting fire. We had just gotten back from Disney hours before.
At one point, after we were all out, I couldn’t find my kids. My middle had been screaming and freaking out. So I was going up and down the street calling, asking if anyone knew where my kids were. THAT was terrifying. Turns out my eldest took them further away down the street and was calming and comforting them. My middle is autistic and can meltdown pretty hard so I was impressed my eldest handled her so well.
I’m still shaken. The good news is all the neighbors sprung into action and their combined efforts tamed the flames before the firetruck arrived. They saved my house which managed to remain undamaged. I am assured they will all fix our fence and landscaping on Monday.

I have been writing. Soon break will be here and I’ll be able to write even more. I’m about 14,000 words into a mcshep fic called Lightning in which John is apparently incapable of accepting he can have a happy ending, so instead he’s have an epic meltdown.
Work is going…It’s been such a trying year and I am so thankful for the break.

Me: Sure. Why not.
Kiddo #1: you should draw a birthday hat on it because you always draw a birthday hat on the top.
Me: okaaay
Kiddo #1: and a birthday medal
Me: where?
Kiddo #1: maybe on the stairs because the Stargate took it off.
Me: what else?
Kiddo #1: A table with pizza on it to match the pizza you drew on the Stargate. Oh, and maybe some balloons. Lots of balloons! And the purple planet. They really need a purple planet.
For the record, she has not really seen Atlantis but loves to try convincing me she is old enough. Here is the picture as drawn by both of us.
