I’ce got the outlines now for my Fandom Trumps Hate stories and I’m excited to get to work in them. When I finally have time to myself….
I’m reposting an old gen story of mine: Weakness. Revising my old work has really shown me how far I have come. I can spot passive voice better now, make more believable action sequences, and make a more compelling and sensical story. The trick has been tempering my “Change everything!!!” with “Keep true to who I was and what my original readers enjoyed.”
Oh, it's been a bit since I checked in, I think. I hope you are all doing well.
I've been working a lot, but really enjoying it right now. I hope that enthusiasm keeps up. I haven't written much, but I did start a new GEN story based on this artwork that my daughter drew me.

I so enjoy doing collabs with her and getting to surprise cassiope25 was a huge plus. Since we made it at the same time, we put the podfic and fic in the same post:

I'm also running a closed exchange for my discord friends at the same time that will pair with the genMayathon. I'm so excited to see some brilliant authors signing up who I don't think have ever written gen before! Much as I like my romance, I really have been missing some friendship and other gen style stories. I'm sooooooo excited!!!
I'll post the genMayathon pages for the general prompts challenge soon as we get them set up.

sholio posted about The Long Night of London Mollari, and that episode was always so special to me. Especially now with how everything is going. When G'Kar tells London that it doesn't matter if people stopped. It doesn't matter if it was a stranger or his worst enemy. He had a responsibility to say something.

Finding Home
Feb. 21st, 2025 06:45 pmI posted on tumblr, but forgot to post here. I did it! I finished Finding Home. This feels like a huge relief and accomplishment. I’m so proud of it!
It managed to stay between gen and pre-slash so my gen readers and my slash readers can interpret how they want. John does say the L word in ch 21 but I mean for this to go either way in terms of platonic friends who are essentially family or of a more preslash nature.
22 chapters, 43k words, and nearly everyone is there! Ford comes home. Elizabeth and Carson 1.0 get a role, and so much more.

Jan. 25th, 2025 05:07 pmOh! I just realized I forgot to post about my other awesome gift from the other sga secret Santa fic exchange. I was so lucky to have Mas write for me! They are a wonderful writer and friend and their fics are always special and awesome.
This one is especially awesome as it focused on Rodney as autistic and dealing with the holidays. It's a wonderful twist on A Christmas Carol. I love how soft this is with McKay and how it understands his struggles with parties. The team is wonderful in how they help him with this. Such a treasure of a fic.

It was written for the leftovers challenge where people take whatever prompts were given from the secret Santa and write extra, unexpected stories. So I had no idea this one was coming my way.

Advent Calendar #16
Jan. 1st, 2025 07:16 pm I wrote entry 16 for my advent calendar fic. Finally! I'm at the main plot. I've been waiting for this section as it's one of the main ideas for the story from the beginning. It was cassiope25 who had the idea of making this an advent calendar. We discussed Rodney having a bad reaction to medicine and it affecting his mental health. Then we discussed making it around Christmas and giving it a ghosts visiting to help him.
So for this story, I have Energy Carson and Energy Elizabeth talking and we get to learn that Atlantis is sentient. So for those not reading the calendar that want to see a peek, this is a scene I was soooo excited to write:
This scene starts directly after Ghost in the Machine. It's my way of giving some closure to these characters:

Elizabeth, or what is left of her anyway, turns to her long lost family and says goodbye for the last time. She will step through the event horizon and into space, knowing her story had already ended years before. She made a promise to watch over others, to be a force for good, and this is how she can do that on her own terms instead of putting others at risk.

Finding Home
Dec. 30th, 2024 03:25 pmI just finished chapter 15 of this fic. It's getting dark as Rodney heads towards his longest, hardest night before the light comes. I'm so proud of this whole fic. I also noticed that comments wise I'm getting a lot of interaction! This is amazing as AO3 isn't the site I usually consider heavy for comments. I'm up to about 92 comment threads, 195 comments with my replies. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see how much sga fandom leaves comments, and this puts my fic in the top 0.4% for sga fic comments. I know. It's weird to calculate that. But I can't help it. I'm a numbers persons.I love calculating numbers.
So far, all entries are gen (though one can easily choose for them to be pre-slash).

Like, they just trusted me to write a story and that it would be good and worthy of making a podfic? That's....that's something...
Anyway, I did it. And....I think it turned out awesome. It's funny with a little bit of angst for flavor. I LOVE the podfic that itstartedwithalex made and the cover art is perfect!

See, sometimes I want humor. Sometimes I want gen. Only gen (or gen masquerading as pre slash). Sometimes I want feelings realization and only feelings realization.
Apparently, lately, I only want poor emotionally tortured Rodney trying to cope with all the fallout from his actions. I want lots and lots and lots of it. If it references gating Elizabeth, all the better. Replicator code? Yes, please. It needs some h/c with it, and friends that stand by him no matter what and help him see the good in him. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH YOU ALL. I can't even tell you.
So I wrote this a lot. I also got my wonderful friend Mas_Pebbles_Sharp to write a story for me about it for Fandom Trumps Hate. It has everything I love, plus sea monster and Rodney imprisoned for months and whump! So go check it out:

The latest of which is pretty much exactly the same PB&J sandwich I always eat, just dressed a little different to give it some flavor. This time the flavor comes in the form of self-destructive behaviors that have been slowly escalating. The story starts after it's gone too far when Rodney agrees to a punishment ritual off-world after a village blames him for recent deaths.
I had to write this one when I woke up and I clearly heard Carson telling Rodney, "I'm sorry, son, Colonel Sheppard has advised we put you on a 48-hour hold pending a mental health evaluation."
And after that was in my head, how could I not write it????? Like, what would happen that John would take such a drastic step?

This one is established McShep with nothing more than some handholding and a sentence or two saying they are together.

I’m playing with my summary: Rodney confess to a murder he clearly didn’t commit (despite mounds of evidence he did). John’s investigating to find the true killer, so why does Rodney keep trying to block his efforts?
The number of warnings this fic is going to need…. But I think it’s a story worth telling.
What are you all working on? How goes it?

- Rodney insults locals medicine. Locals actually know what they are doing and treat him anyway.
- Rodney so sick he’s on the verge of death
- Ronon talking about Melena and her work as a nurse
- Ronon asking Rodney to honor Melena’s memory with him
- Very mild McShep/Pre-Slash. Nothing beyond some hand holding (most of it awkward) and feelings admission (as much as John can do that)
So, yeah, I’m really happy with this story.
A few updates, biggest one is (4)
(1) Disneyland DAS was really easy in person. Such a relief! My middle got her much needed accommodations and the trip went fairly well.
(2) I finished Bottled Up Lightning. It’s doing really well overall. I did wake up to one negative comment on my birthday so that sucked. I rarely get negative feedback on AO3 so I find it so jarring. In this case, I see where the commented is coming from, although I disagree strongly and believe they are confusing two very different situations. But I’ve decided not to answer and move on for my own sanity.
(3) I realize some of the people commenting/kudosing go as far back as liking my work since 2014 and some from as far back as 2005! Even some of the people I have never interacted with. That’s such a sweet comforting thought.
(4). Um…this was my house the night of the 4th. I’m still processing this. I was sitting on the couch, totally freaked out at how close the neighbors were doing fireworks near us and thinking I need to chill and take anxiety meds like pets do at this time of year, when my son runs in and says “black stuff hit the house!”. And I see these flames. So I run back in and call everyone out shouting fire. We had just gotten back from Disney hours before.
At one point, after we were all out, I couldn’t find my kids. My middle had been screaming and freaking out. So I was going up and down the street calling, asking if anyone knew where my kids were. THAT was terrifying. Turns out my eldest took them further away down the street and was calming and comforting them. My middle is autistic and can meltdown pretty hard so I was impressed my eldest handled her so well.
I’m still shaken. The good news is all the neighbors sprung into action and their combined efforts tamed the flames before the firetruck arrived. They saved my house which managed to remain undamaged. I am assured they will all fix our fence and landscaping on Monday.

This fic is me processing the sad pictures of RDA signing until 1:30 am looking worn. This story is part of a collection of stories written by fandom friends who attended the event. The plan is to podfic them, but my voice is out.
It’s Only Right
Excerpt: Despite ten hours of standing in line in a sweltering hot gymnasium, the queue still refused to budge. No longer interested in conversation or learning from the people around her, even Teyla seemed on the verge of tears, her right eye twitching slightly. Rodney, who had long since passed from frustration and panic to a resigned, “I guess this is my life now,” stood beside her.

Except for a few stragglers I probably won’t migrate, I moved my last old story to AO3. It’s still gen and only mildly revised. This one takes place right after the Hive.

(1) NotTasha wrote a new story! And it’s soooooo good. I am seriously so excited seeing faces from fandom of old sticking their heads back in. I’ve heard from a few others that they are also writing some new stuff.
The new work is a sequel to another story and both are so good. We’re talking Rodney and music. Rodney with kids. Rodney with trauma. Like…..Gaaaaaah

(2) I found this old story of mine that I lightly revised and migrated. This one is also gen (no relationship). I love how it’s Rodney in the infirmary but a quiet tone. He has a fever and feels awful, but there’s no crisis feel to any of it. Nurse Cindy sits with him while his team is away on a rescue mission. Meanwhile, one of his scientists is traumatized and considering resigning.

Feb. 19th, 2024 07:37 am Well middle kiddo has covid and this week is going to prove interesting. Apropos of my latest fic, she didn’t seem sick so I had my doubts... Had she just read this? I mean I only tested her because her older sister seemed really sick.

This new fic is gen (no relationship) and a missing scene for The Shrine. It’s meant to be short and to the point (though I have been told I should expand on it in a sequel). My ND friends say this one hits them hard as it is an experience we all share and when we watch The Shrine we know exactly what happened with Rodney going through the gate feeling off, because we have been there.
In fact, I think this fic is 15 years in the making despite only being 1000 words long. The first sentence came to me in the car and I had to pull over and make a voice memo!
I’ve gotten such interesting and strong feedback. It doesn't have many hits for some reason but a 2:1 kudos rating currently suggests it is understood by many. Someone even left a hilarious bookmark comment.
Cassiope25 and acrowb beta’d and their input was invaluable. Cassiope25 made a cover and I did my podfic and written fic together combo I have been enjoying and hope makes it more accessible.
