Felicia Day voices Applejack's mom in one of my all time favorite episodes! William Shatner voices her grandfather. How did I not notice this? To top this all off, Felicia Day has an amazing song in the episode. I'm so happy, I can't even tell you.

What makes this episode great? Probably more than I can say but just about everything. Besides Felicia Day and William Shatner? It's well known that Applejack's parents are dead but they never really say it on the show because many think it isn't appropriate to talk about in a kid's show. In this episode, it looks like they finally decided to let this idea go and just be honest with their audience. They still never outright say that her parents died, but I don't think the episode left any doubt. I love how they handled this so sweetly with their three kids just trying to learn about what their parents were like. So well done!

I also loved William Shatner's character. He is the grandfather they never knew until this episode. He moves to Ponyville to finally see them and be with them. After years of feuding, he realizes how much he's lost in not being with his daughter or her family. It's sad to think his daughter died and he lost so much but it's so heart warming to see him accepted into the family and their lives.

I know they will never tell us how the parents died. Even though I know it is for the best left unsaid, I really wish I knew! I can tell there are a dozen or two fics about this. Still, just watching this amazing romance unfold, so sweetly and gently, make me tear up. I miss these two ponies as if I knew them and that is saying something for only being in one episode!
