The best teams

sgatazmyMy favorite all time scene ever in any book or show was in the complete (not abridged) version of The Man in the Iron Mask (US) or Le Vicomte de Bragelonne (the rest of the world) where D’Artagnan is sent to arrest Athos and instead brings him a horse to escape on. Athos refuses and instead insists on D’Artagnan taking him to the Bastille.
D’Artagnan returns and says something like, “Through no fault of my own, Athos is in the Bastille”
And the king is so confused and says “What do you mean through no fault of your own? I sent you to arrest him”
“Yes, but he was my best friend.”
“I told you I could send someone else.”
“True but I did not want my friend arrested.”
“Do you plan to match him in insolence?”
“Oh, no, Sire, I plan to go much further than he did.”
….
Seriously, I cannot get that scene out of my head since I first read it 25 years ago. The absolute best team story I have ever read. Now that i am on an SGA kick, I can totally see Sheppard in this role with regards to McKay. I want to read something like this soooooo bad. Sadly, no time to write it.
