Con Stuff:

 I'm exhausted.  I need to start pulling myself together and get my classes ready for the subs when I head off to Basingstoke. I am soooo seriously excited. I did a zoom call with several people going, including some of my favorite authors, and I think that went okay?  I suspect I talked too much which is my usual issue. It was fun, though, and they were all such lovely people that I get to meet soon!

Fic wise:

• I was surprised and happy to see that my fic, Festering Wounds, Hurting Souls, Loving Hearts got rec'd on stargateficrec. That doesn't happen too much for me. In fact, in my 18 years of writing SGA, I only have one other fic that got rec'd there.  The good news is this means this fic is creeping up on 100 kudos which makes me all kinds of happy as I only have one other fic above 100 kudos (it's like an achievement score in my eyes) I only wrote it a few months ago.  To think I almost deleted it after it was up for a day or two because I was unsure about it...

• Which reminds me, I need to make my recs on stargateficrec. I'm doing humor this month and I have a fairly good idea which ones I want to rec if I can just remember to actually do so.

• Working still on this fic with cassiope25 that we've been on since November. It's starting to come together and it's fun and different. tippergreen is kindly giving us some much needed help/background to pull our story together. Except for writing with my neighbor, this is my first collaboration fic and it's been a learning experience. I think I'm learning a lot and it's made me think about how much I want to do more collaborations and learn from even more people. I know I've learned a lot from cassiope25  and my neighbor with just a few short months of working together.

• I also have a few fic ideas in my head. My middle child  and I came up with a great idea that I think needs to be a fic: Ancient School books.  Learning to read from Ancient early readers.  Aesop's Fables, only with twisted Ancient morals like: "It is better to let your seed planet go than risk losing ascension."  I was thinking of calling it "The Ancient's Guide to Questionable Morals, abridged kid's edition."

Except for a few stragglers I probably won’t migrate, I moved my last old story to AO3.  It’s still gen and only mildly revised.  This one takes place right after the Hive.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Basingstoke just announced Momoa!!!!!

I am assured my podfics are fine and don’t need rerecording.  That’s good to know. I am, after all, a compulsive revisor.

I seem to be in a writing pause now. This isn’t surprising given how much I wrote since August. It is annoying, however.  I have a collaboration fic that needs to get finished and I really want to write the sequel soon to More Cuddles, Less War Crimes. Blanket forts are sure to make for a fun fic. But every time I sit down to write, the words fail me.

My amazing 13-year-old wants to be a graphic designer.  So I got her to design a shirt for me for the con. This is the back.

 I have so many fond memories of Pi Day.

It's a holiday I always look forward to. This year we are going to have a party with the neighbors. Any excuse to eat pie, right?  

For those not in the US: Here we celebrate Pi on March 14 because we write our dates different than the rest of the world. We write the month first then the day.  So 3.14. Thus the geeks all eat Pi and act crazy. It's also Einstein's birthday.

When I was a postbaccalaureate and then masters student studying math, I remember the Pi Day celebrations in the math lounge. We sang silly songs, ate pie, and generally laughed ourselves silly. I truly treasure those days.

In 2006 when I was in the math lounge and just starting into writing Stargate fanfic, I wrote a Pi Day fic. I remember everyone in the lounge throwing out ideas to include. I had to write quickly before Pi Day ended, so I posted without a beta. Thankfully, the response was really positive despite the remaining typos.

The story, looking back, was seriously saccharine and in need of revisions. The underlying idea, however, still called to me. So my quest these last few days was to bring this story back, but make it live up to what I knew it could be.

(1) Less Saccharine

(2) Still sweet but maybe a bit more salt.  I noticed a slight Trinity reference so I decided to embellish that. Which is hilarious, right? Here is am writing a silly, fun fic and I decide to go with fully making it a Trinity tag? Sure, why not.

(3) Fix up passive writing

(4) Really embellish more of the crazy fun. Add some fun mathematical descriptions to the pie fight to really bring the whole fic together.

I'm so proud of the result!

Description: Atlantis celebrates Pi Day

Relationships: None, but can easily be read as John/Rodney so I let the reader choose. 

I feel sometimes I’m mostly posting to the silence as most of fandom isn't on my dreamwidth, but I prefer this format for talking about my writing and the writing of others. I feel I can say so much more here than say tumblr or a short discord post. 

In general fandom has been a lot of fun. I have my current favorite authors and my fav authors still from
fandom of old.  I’m surprised how many gems I missed back in the day. I think I mostly stayed in a small, gen corner of fandom back then. Coming back has been a gold mine of so many good fics.

Speaking of good fics:

Not only did Tipper (tippergreen ) write a new sga fic that she just started posting, but she gifted it to me! So exciting!!!!!!

I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s a gen fic focused on Teyla and Rodney.
She’s posted 2 of the 4 chapters so far.

Tipper ( tippergreen  ) had the honor of reading the last segment of the It Could Have Started Like This Season One podfic project for romancingmcshep  I can’t express how exciting it was to hear so many voices from writers I adore. There were so many strong readings and I felt connected to everyone as a part of this big project.

The series by dedkake takes an episode from each episode of Atlantis and imagines what if Rodney and John decided to finally admit their feelings in the given episode? The vignettes are so sweet and well loved, made even more awesome by this reading collaboration. Voices from all over the world participated, including many people I chat with or read stories from.

 I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by so many ideas lately.  I want to make a podfic of NotTasha’s Stupid Stuff and there are still three stories of mine I want to podfic because oddly I like listening to my own stories.  

I want to write so many things but I am limited on time! My brain is on overload. I will put them here to help me organize what I have been working on:

(1) a gen story where John and Rodney are passing notes to each other coded in math (using other bases, etc). I can actually do
math in other bases and Ancient Babylonian and Ancient Mayan. I can even decide on a math system for Wraith and Ancients.

(2) the sequel to More Cuddles, Less War Crimes where there are blanket forts ala Community.

(3) John realizes dating a member of his team is against the rules for a reason. 

(4) Remix of my old deleted story Deep Down Below (old fic) where I really build the Teyla & Rodney friendship and connection to music better. I’m a better writer now and I have some good ideas here.

(5) Revising my old story Victory or Death that ended up with a bad ending decades ago after a sad life event turned the story into a trigger for me. I can now go back and make it better, fix the lore, and finally give it the ending it deserves.  Maybe also add McShep or pre-relationship/ambiguous so it can be read as gen or not.  But I am really overwhelmed trying to piece it together.  I only have old emails with different versions of the story and no clear final drafts.

(6) AU to Miller’s Crossing where Rodney is facing criminal charges. This one is a long one with a detailed plot I’ve discussed with cassiope25

(7) Finish my WIP collaboration which is a tag to Adrift and deals with John having to address Rodney’s refusal to turn off the nanites.
